Balikatan – (Shoulder to Shoulder) Annual JCS directed, USARPAC/COMMARFORPAC sponsored combined/joint exercise designed to improve planning, readiness, and interoperability. PACOM component units and all the components of the Armed Forces of the Philippines conduct the exercise.
Balance Piston – SOCPAC sponsored Joint/Combined Exchange Training (JCET) Exercise specializing in small unit tactics. The US Army’s 1st Special Forces Group and the Philippine Army’s Special Operations Command conduct the exercise.
Teak Piston – SOCPAC sponsored JCET Exercise specializing in various types of air operations and maintenance. The exercise is conducted by USAF’s 353rd Special Operations Group and the Philippine Air Force.
Flash Piston – SOCPAC sponsored JCET Exercise specializing in maritime operations and small unit tactics. The exercise is conducted by the US Navy Special Warfare Unit 1 and the Philippine Navy Special Warfare Group (SWAG).
Vector Balance Piston – SOCPAC sponsored JCET Exercise specializing in Close Quarter Battle and marksmanship skills. This exercise is conducted by the US Army’s 1st Special Forces Group and the Philippine Army Special Operations Command.
Carat – (Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training) Annual 7th Fleet sponsored exercise headed by COMLOGWESTPAC. The exercise focuses on underway naval combat training, amphibious operations, and air surveillance. The exercise is conducted by 7th Fleet assets and the Philippine Navy.
MARSURVEX – (Maritime Surveillance Exercise) Quarterly 7th Fleet sponsored USN-PN exercise involving US Navy P3 Orion aircraft. The exercise is designed to improve Over the Horizon Targeting (OTHT) and maritime operations with air and surface assets.
PALAH – (Pang Lupa Alon Himpapawid =Sea Land and Air) Semi-Annual 7th Fleet sponsored bilateral exercise focusing on small units tactics, marksmanship and over the beach (OTB) training. This exercise is conducted by US Navy SEALS and Philippine SWAG.
MTWS – (Marine Tactical Warfare Simulation) Annual III Marine Expeditionary Force sponsored exercise emphasizing desktop computer decision making and wargaming.
SAGIP – CINCPAC J08 sponsored annual multi-lateral gaming seminar dealing with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response.
HANDA – Annual seminar focusing on US-RP crisis action planning for coordinated and combined operations. CINCPAC J08 has the lead.
